Can me and my husband get JUST ONE divorce lawyer?

Dec 12, 2011

We both want the same thing and both agree to the terms, we just want to make sure it is done fairly and properly legally.

Or do we not need a divorce lawyer in this case at all?

BTW how much would it cost to get a lawyer?
I agree, i can just see the lawyer trying to create a fight between us, in order to make money from it!

Which is why i think one would be better than two, but then you never know, he might just try to make us fight, because he might want his partner to make money too.

I have seen how manipulative lawyers can be…

If you both agree, then don’t waste your money on a lawyer. Just use a Paralegal.. That will save you thousands.

Depending on where you live, if you are both able to amicably arrange all of the terms and division of assets and liabilities- you should not need a lawyer at all.

In fact, the addition of Lawyers could turn your amicable split in to something more messy.

There are plenty of self help websites on the internet to guide you through this process.

Normally it is not a good idea and most attorneys do not make a practice of representing both. You say you both want the same, but things tend to change in the process. There are other options and it partially depends on the state you live in. The internet may have options for you to consider. As long as both you and he continue to agree, the divorce available on-line is possible. Again this may differ state to state. The cost also varies in different regions of the US. Minimum of probably $400.00 up to 1500.00

The easy answer is $1000. But they will make you fight and drive up the bills.

I hate lawyers. Email me your agreement with both you and your husbands email addresses. I will scan it for potential unfairness.

You’ll save alot of money doing it by yourself with your husband, especially if it’s amicable and you don’t have alot of assets to split. For example, you’re renting and both own your own car and don’t have any other property, then it’s easy. But if it’s things like a mortgage, shared payments, joint bank accounts, personal loans, it’s best to use a paralegal.

You don’t need a lawyer you need a mediator they can draw up the papers and have you guys sign for a co-op divorce. Look up divorce mediator for more info

    I hope this helps

One lawyer will work for a simple uncontested divorce especially with everything already in agreement. You can always hire a Paralegal to draw up the papers which will save you alot of money and they are just as good as any Attorney here as Paralegals do all the attorneys footwork anyway. Then just file the paperwork with the courts for finalization

I’ve done this twice and it worked fine. If you go in with everything settled there are no fights for them to make, and you’re obviously better at compromise than most people getting divorced.

These answers have not been correct in my experience.
